According to yoga, we have seven main energy centres (chakras) which run along our spines. Just like any other energetic being, energy can get stuck or become stagnant in a particular area, especially if we have not been physically active.
In order to unblock these areas of stagnant energy & get the energy moving freely again, we need to move our spines. A very simple yet effective way is by moving the spine in Cat & Cow pose. Mobilizing the body in this manner not only frees up the energy centres; by moving in rhythm with our breathing, it also reconnects us to our breath & body.
