Warrior I, or Virabhadrasana I, is one of the fundamental standing poses in yoga. The standing poses not only open up the body in a safe way, they also encourage us to bring awareness to all parts of our bodies.
This pose opens up the chest by removing stiffness in the shoulders, neck & hip joints. It also gives strength & elasticity to the back muscles & removes sprain in the lower back.
The lunging action of the legs strengthens and tones the leg & buttock muscles.
On the energetic level, Warrior I cultivates concentration and balance. It also brings a sense of balance to the practitioner.
